In order to pass on information to clients about this subject, does OH have an ethical policy, or are there any specifics we can quote to show that it has a commitment to reducing its carbon footprint.
Thanks |

I'd also be interested to hear if there are any plans to make OH greener.
Having said that, at the end of the day the service is the most important thing to our clients. Our previous host was carbon neutral, but OH have done a better job of setting up our dedicated server and sorting out any problems - but going green would be a nice bonus. |

Hi Guys,
We are about 6 weeks of a large announcement to-do with this subject so I would like to explain a few things we already do and what we hope to change.
Currently our Power usage effectiveness (PUE) is around 1.6-1.7, this is quite low and already a good start. The main reason for this is our cold aisle system allow's us to separate the cold and hot, we also blank off any space to make sure the hot and cold don't mix.
However we feel that burning 60% of our power is a complete waste and as such we have for the last 12 months been working on a better system to cool. This will be announced in the coming months however we do hope to get to a PUE of around 1.3!
Server wise we have been working on low power servers and plan to upgrade quite a large amount of our shared hosting to lower power servers.
We have also been testing Cloud Hosting using XenServer and for the last 4 months some of the programming team have been building a control panel. This is working.... however still needs some testing before it goes live.
Cloud Hosting will allow us to use less server's and thus save carbon.
Hope this helps.
Regards
