How To Add Your First Domain in HELM

How to add your first website address or domain to your new HELM account.

When you add a new domain in HELM, the features for that site are automatically installed and created on one of the OpenHosting servcers and automatically pointed the the DNS server.

To add a domain to your account, it has to be registered to you, so that everyone in the world knows thats it taken by you. You can usually register a domain, such as .co.uk or .com for a term or period of time, such as 2 years. You can do it with another registration company and then point the domain towards OpenHosting once the domain is registered. Providing you have registered the domain correctly, pointing to the right nameservers, then it can be added to your control panel successfully. Or as an alternative, you can let OpenHosting do the registration for you.

To add a domain, firstly log in to HELM at http://control.openhosting.co.uk with the detials provided in the sign up email:
- User Name: OHCS****
- Password: Provided in email.

You are now confronted with the main control panel, click on DOMAINS. If you have added a package then you can proceed, if not then see the article about 'adding packages' in this section.

Click on the add new... option. And you are now subject to 3 registration options:
- No registration or transfer required.
- Please register the domain.
- Please transfer administration of this domain.

If you wish to let OH register the domain then use the second option Please register the domain and follow the options about registering a domain.

If you have already got a registered domain, and wish to move the Hosting Tags over to OH then use the third option Please transfer adminstration of this domain and then follow the instructions to move the domain over to OH.

Or finally... if you have done both the registration and setup of the domain manually then go ahead and add the domin by chosing the first option No registration or transfer required and then you can go ahead and create the domain on the server. And then it should come online within a few minutes after you submit the domain.

Hopefully, all going well you will see the domain appear on the domain list in your control panel. Click the domain you wish to administer and you can then change and alter the settings for this domain.

Once the domain is created, HELM puts a folder on one of th OH servers with all the relevant folders for your website: Logs, DB and wwwroot (where files are uploaded to.) These are visible by using an FTP client to connect to your domain.

You have no successfully added a domain to your HELM control panel. You should do able to now see the domain online when you go to the address you submitted. If you have any problems with this, I would recommend either checking the OH FAQ or open a support ticket.
